Hello Lovelies!

I'm happy to be back today with the second edition of a collaborative series I'm working on with my talented sister, Holly Platt.

I love art!  In my opinion, the choice of art in a person's home is extremely important.  It is one way in which we can truly express who we are.  And, of course, art is very personal.

I am lucky to know some very talented artists.  One of whom is my beautiful sister!

We thought it would be fun to work together to share our two passions...her art and my design.  And so we came up with the idea of ART-spirations.

In case you missed my inaugural post, the premise behind ART-spirations is that I take a piece of Holly's art and use it as the jumping off point for a room design.

This time, I decided to use one of her abstract floral paintings.  She has done a series of these and I love ALL of them!!

Adding Some Green to My Living Room~

This post is sponsored by CommercialSilk.com.

Today I want to share with you a small refresh I worked on in my living room.

I was contacted several months ago by Commercial Silk, an artificial plant supplier.  I had been looking for a nice artificial Fiddle Leaf Fig because I have a bit of a black thumb, and I knew that I wouldn't be able to keep a real tree alive.

They offered to send me a silk Fiddle Leaf Fig in exchange for a review, so I decided to go for it!

I had recently purchased a couple of new throw pillows to freshen up the look of the living room and I wanted to try the tree in that space as well.

I like the look of the greenery in the space and the tree is high quality (read that as "it doesn't look fake.")

It doesn't really look like the Fiddle Leaf Fig trees I've seen...it's a little too full and has too many leaves.  But the leaves are the right shape and they're a gorgeous color.

All in all, I'm quite pleased with the tree, and Commercial Silk had many other plants to offer as well, including a large selection of topiaries (which I'm a sucker for) and which can actually be used outside.  That might be a really fun addition to a porch.  Hmmmm.

Are you in on the Fiddle Leaf Fig trend?  What do you think of it?

I received a silk plant from CommercialSilk.com at no charge to facilitate my review.  The opinions expressed are 100% mine.

I'm Back...Where Have I Been?

Hello?  Is this thing on??  Is there even a chance that anyone is actually out there still reading this blog?

This is me ⇩. My name is Wendy.  I write The Shabby Nest.

For those of you who might be new here...Welcome.  For those of you who've been reading my blog for a while, I'm glad you've stuck with me while I've been MIA.  I took an unplanned two month hiatus.  And I learned something about myself and this blog.  I really love blogging, but I am having a hard time "career blogging".

Art-spiration - A New Blog Series

I'm really excited today because I've teamed up with my amazing artist sister, Holly Platt, to bring you a new series.

Paint Dipped Ladder DIY and Hygge

Hello Lovelies!

Perhaps you have heard the term Hygge which has been floating around the interwebs for the past several weeks.  It refers to a Danish practice of making their homes cozy and comfortable.  It includes things like candlelight, books, cozy socks and blankets.

I loved the idea of incorporating Hygge into my own home during these long, cold winter months.  And so I set about finding ways to cozy up our home.

You may recall a couple of posts back that I added an electric fireplace to my master bedroom.  I've loved having it in there (as my bedroom is one of my favorite places to be in Hydeaway Cottage).  I've also made sure that we have plenty of reading material handy.  And I love candles (burned only under close supervision of course)!

My New Laminate Floors - The Final Reveal

This post is sponsored by Quick-Step.  I received Quick-Step flooring and accessories free of charge to facilitate my review.

Thank you for joining me for this fourth and final installment of my series on installing laminate flooring in Hydeaway Cottage.  I am literally bursting at the seams with excitement to share the final reveal with you all today!

If you missed any of my previous posts, you can find my first post on why I chose to install laminate flooring here, my second post on choosing the style and color of my laminate here, and my previous post on the installation process here.

The gorgeous laminate that I chose from Quick-Step flooring  has entirely changed the feel of my main floor and I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome.  But before I share the AFTER photos with you, I want to share the BEFORE photo with you one last time.

You can see that the dark carpet really didn't do anything for the space.  I tried to lighten it up with an area rug, but it was still very dominant.  It also was not very functional in our main living area. The amount of traffic that we get through the main floor is crazy, and the carpet wasn't ideal.  The laminate solved both of those problems.

Now for the AFTER photos...there are a lot of them and I'm just going to let them do the talking...Enjoy!
